What is Pilates

Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century.  Joseph Pilates was born in Germany in 1883, throughout his youth he practiced many forms of physical training, such as diving and gymnastics.  His philosophy was based on working the body and mind together.  To begin with Pilates was mainly practised by dancers however nowadays it is practised all over the world by a huge range of participants.  Pilates benefits a huge range of people by working on:

  • Centreing
  • Flow
  • Breathing
